Open World 2008 |
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The Dayton Friendship Force has been selected by the United States Library of Congress to participate in OPEN WORLD 2008 by hosting 10 Russian delegates as they observe the US National Elections. The OPEN WORLD 2008 program brings emerging leaders from Russia and the Ukraine to the US to experience American democracy and civil society in action. The Dayton Friendship Force has been asked to host these delegates from October 31 through November 8, and we need your help. In many ways, this will be just like a Friendship Force inbound exchange, with the hosts expected to provide bed-and-breakfast, and to transport their guests to various planned activities. The major difference in this exchange is that it is focused on the elections, and the hosts are expected to be open and objective in discussing issues arising from the elections. The hosts are NOT expected to deny their own positions and should feel free to explain their positions to their guests. Because the delegates are here to learn about our election process and democracy in action, the planned program will be busy and focused on these areas and less on socializing. However, we will have several small group dinners and get-togethers as well as time for the ever-important shopping. # # # # # PS Following is a graphic showing the activities enjoyed by the Open World 2008 delegates during their stay in Dayton. You will notice that we kept them (and their hosts) busy as we presented to them various aspects of our civic, educational, and cultural infrastructure. |
